Mining Companies in WA use Kangaroo Tent City to set up mining exploration camp sites
Mining company Sheffield Resources is doing some exploration work in the Kimberley region of WA and have chosen tents from Kangaroo Tent City for the project. Chris Wilson has chosen the Campmor Safari Bow tents for their staff accommodation in the region. The area is so remote and the ground so rock hard, the tents have to be anchored using sandstone blocks as shown, even though these tents are supplied with solid spring steel pegs.
"I am impressed with the quality of the tents in materials used and construction. We have had gusty strong winds throughout the month as well as fires and the tents stand strong. In the exploration and resources industry, it is imperative that our equipment can withstand extremely harsh conditions and I have full confidence that your Campmor tents will be with us for many seasons to come ". Says Chris Wilson. Field Services Supervisor.
Kangaroo Tent City and BBQ's Wins Tender Contract for Taronga Zoo
Kangaroo Tent City and BBQs have won the tender contract to produce 5 star canvas tents for Taronga Zoo, Dubbo's Zoofari Campout Experience. For a number of years, the Zoo at Dubbo has offered guests luxury tent accommodation and a unique overnight experience to view and feed the animals behind the scenes. The Zoofari experience has proven to be a huge success for the Zoo, attracting both domestic and international guests alike to this unique landscape.
So much so that the Zoo has decided to significantly expand the Zoofari experience - the $1.5M project offers 10 more boutique tent sites and presents a unique upmarket experience for guests - each tent offers a luxurious bed, furniture and linen, ensuite bathrooms, air conditioning, and an undercover timber deck out the front with expansive views of African animals wandering the plains each morning. The architecturally designed tent sites offer a unique 5 star experience not seen in Australia before. Kangaroo Tent City and BBQ's have manufactured the tents in Sydney to meet the exact design specifications required for each site, requiring precision and accuracy. "Guests will be suitably pampered, and enjoy an African Safari style experience" says Justin Kerley, Managing Director of Kangaroo Tent City and BBQ's.
Trek Larapinta Choose Diamantina Tents for Central Australian Tours
Trek Larapinta are a reputable Central Australian Tour Company with vast experience in domestic tourism and the use of camping related equipment in harsh outback environments. Richard and his company need equipment that will last the distance in the harsh conditions. For 2 years now Richard Mayne has chosen to use equipment supplied by Kangaroo Tent City and BBQ's for his tour Company.
"Trek Larapinta operates walking tours in the West MacDonnell Ranges which is a harsh desert environment, it is tough going for our trekkers boots and very tough on the tents that we use. In previous years we have used a variety of tents at our semi-permanent camp sites and with the harsh UV and constant use, these other tents have not handled the environment and have lasted in some cases less than 2 months. Our Company purchased Diamantina Canvas tents through Kangaroo Tent City and BBQ's, in particular the Safari Bow Tents last year and used them at both of our campsites for the LArapinta Trail season (March-September) and in a word they are supurb. They are easy to erect, offer huge amounts of space, have stood up to cyclonic winds/rain/hail and have not deteriorated at all after standing in harsh desert sunlight for 6 months. The Campmor Bow Tent is a class above anything else in the market and we (and our guests) look forward to enjoying them for decades to come."
Richard Mayne, Managing Director, Trek Larapinta

Kangaroo Tent City and BBQs at Penrith Destroyed By Fire
On the evening of November 2nd 2010, Kangaroo Tent City and BBQs store at Penrith was burnt to the ground in an unfortunate fire that destroyed the building and all its contents within 1 hour. Nothing was salvaged from the fire and over $15 million dollars worth of damage was done. Thankfully no one was hurt or injured and the rescue teams and police did an outstanding job to contain the blaze and protect people. The cause of the fire was inconclusive, but investigations resulted in the likely cause being an electrical fault in a roller door motor. It was a devistating blow to Kangaroo Tent City and BBQs, who had occupied the premises for 18 years.
Kangaroo Tent City staff brave "The Perfect Storm" to test tents
On Tuesday 22nd September 2009, a team of Kangaroo Tent City staff began their outdoor product training camp to test and learn about new products. A total of 86 tents were set up, and during the day staff enjoyed some fishing, kayaking across to the island, and gained valuable experience in setting up tents correctly, and further training on tents, backpacks, sleeping bags, camping furniture, head lamps, lanterns and gas equipment. We weren't aware that one of the biggest wind and dust storms in Sydneys history was about to hit.
Overnight Sydney experienced flashing lightning, pouring rain, and howling wind. By 5am on Wednesday morning, Sydney was engulfed in orange dust, blown by 100 km per hour winds from outback Australia, leaving the whole city sky with an eerie orange glow. The airport was closed, Sydney Ferries were shut down and city buildings, homes and cars were covered in orange dust, the likes of which had never been experienced before.
After a night of very little sleep, Kangaroo Tent City staff awoke to inspect the damage. Amazingly every tent was still in tact, no damage, a testament to the quality of the products and the skill in which they were set up and managed throughout the night. However the wind did not ease all day, creating extra challenges and forcing us to continue training inside the shelter of the solid Diamantina Sheraton Majestic 3 room canvas tent. Eventually we had to finish the training early, as the conditions were so extreme we could not paddle our kayaks back to shore.
This was the perfect opportunity to test the performance of our tents in the harshest conditions possible. By Wednesday afternoon only 3 tents had been damaged from a total of 86 tents that were set up during the storm. The damage was broken fibreglass poles in the polyester dome tents, and two of these breakages occurred when packing the tents down, when guy ropes were removed in gale force winds, creating added force on the poles.
We all made it off the island safely, with very little damage to product, and perhaps a little more red dust in our hair than we would have anticipated. The conditions were extremely harsh and difficult, however the positive experience gained by our team was priceless. This training camp will be the topic of camping stories for years to come, and our camping expertise has benefited enormously from the experience.
The conditions proved to us once again that our range of tents are some of the best in the industry, able to withstand the most extreme conditions.
Disaster relief in 2005 - Kangaroo Tent City Assists with Earthquake in Pakistan
In 2005 a massive earthquake near Islamabad in Pakistan killed thousands of people and wiped out entire communities and villages leaving them nothing. This occurred just before winter leaving thousands of people homeless and without warmth to fight the cold temperatures.
